Goshen, NY (September 13th) -- The full slate of Republican Orange County Legislators, led by Chairman of the Board Stephen Brescia and Majority Leader Katie Bonelli, today announced their enthusiastic endorsement of their colleague, fellow County Legislator and career law enforcement official Jimmy O’Donnell for Congress.
The full Republican legislative caucus endorsing Mr. O’Donnell is Janet Sutherland, District 2; Paul Ruszkiewicz, District 3; Peter Tuohy, District 7; Barry Cheney, District 8; John S. Vero, District 9; Kathy Stegenga, District 11; Kevin W. Hines, District 12; Thomas J. Faggione, District 13; Joseph J. Minuta, District 15; Leigh J. Benton, District 16; Mike Anagnostakis, District 17, and Rob Sassi, District 18.
“There are many pressing issues facing Orange County that need assistance at the federal level, and who better to represent us than someone who has raised his family here and served our community so well over the years,” said Chairman of the Orange County Legislature Stephen Brescia. “We’ve had a front row seat to Jimmy’s character and effectiveness, and we need him now more than ever fighting for us in Washington. On behalf of our entire majority delegation, we are thrilled to enthusiastically endorse him to be our next Congressman.”
“Jimmy’s dedication to helping people and making our community a better place is felt by all who work with him,” said Majority Leader Katie Bonelli. “He is a proven leader in public safety and homeland security and he’s made a huge impact on behalf of Orange County taxpayers, finding $2 million in budget savings and creating hundreds of jobs--imagine what he can do for us in Congress. Orange County would benefit tremendously from having Jimmy as our Congressman and we’re proud to give him our full support.”
“It means a great deal to me to have the confidence of the people I work alongside every day on behalf of the great residents of Orange County,” said Jimmy O’Donnell. “I care deeply about this community and everything I’ve done is to help make it a better place to live, work and raise our families. We’ll know when the polls close tonight whether Sean Maloney will be forced into his backup plan of running for Congress again, but one thing is certain: he already gave up on us in favor of out-of-touch policies supported by New York City liberals.”
Mr. Donnell currently serves as legislator in the 21st district. He previously served as Deputy Orange County Executive and as the Director of the Orange County Office of Economic Development and head of the county’s Industrial Development Agency after retiring from a distinguished career in law enforcement. He is involved in numerous Orange County community service organizations.
