PETITION: Sean Maloney must step down to run for Attorney General!

Sean Maloney is trying to campaign for Attorney General while running for re-election to Congress at the same time. Not only does that violate the law, but it's a slap in the face to you.

On June 6, 2018, Sean Maloney, Congressman for New York’s 18th Congressional District, declared his candidacy for New York State Attorney General. Instead of resigning his current post as Congressman to chase this prize he's openly coveted since 2006, Sean Maloney has decided to run for two offices at the same time. He has publicly stated that if he wins the New York State Attorney General primary in September, he will stand for that office in November. However, if he loses the Attorney General primary, he will just run for Congress.

Pursuing two elected offices at the same time is not only unethical and blatantly corrupt, but it is illegal in New York. Sean Maloney is a duly sworn elected official who, in a bitter irony, is running to be the chief legal officer of the State of New York while breaking the law — and he doesn’t care.

Local media said it best:

“When someone wants to occupy the state’s highest legal office, starting off with questions about the legality of the effort is not smart.” (Opinion, Times Herald Record; June 6, 2018)

Sean Maloney also intends to use his Congressional war chest to finance both operations, adding a whole new dimension of illegality. This further exposes more deceptive tactics by someone who claims to be honorable and transparent.

Ask yourself: is this behavior you would tolerate from someone running for any sort of public office, let alone Congress or New York State Attorney General?

As Americans, we expect our leaders to show up for work. While Sean Maloney gallivants around the state campaigning for Attorney General and blowing off his current job, who is going to be representing New York’s 18th Congressional District in Washington?

Serving the people is a privilege. Leaders who assume this responsibility have the rare opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the people they represent. Above all, they swear to put the people’s interests before their own. Sean Maloney’s announcement to flout the law, running for two offices at the same time, has finally demonstrated without a doubt that Sean Maloney has no interest in serving the people of the Hudson Valley in Congress.

Sean Maloney may not care to be your voice, but that does not mean you can't make your voice heard! Stand with us and every concerned Hudson Valley resident and sign this petition demanding Sean Maloney step down as Congressman for New York’s 18th Congressional District.
